Nickolas Viau

GIS Specialist & Instructor – Allpoints GIS – Denver, CO / Gypsum, CO

Hello GISCO friends! My name is Nick Viau and I am running for reelection to a second term on your GISCO board of directors. Over the past three years I have been honored and pleased to serve on this board and contribute to our wonderful community of professionals, students and enthusiasts! The number one reason that I am seeking reelection is that I feel I have too many things in the works to stop now. For the past two years I have served as the training coordinator for GISCO, planning and organizing the many awesome training opportunities that we provide to all of you (with help from my fellow board members of course!). With all the craziness of the past year, the training program has taken a hard turn into the virtual realm and we are getting well rooted in this new paradigm. Myself and other board members have been working hard to expand the virtual training opportunities we are able to provide to the community. This is all coming together nicely and we have a robust plan to provide more training opportunities than ever in 2021! I want to see these plans through and continue leading the charge for more training by seeking reelection.

Secondly, I love this community and all of the fabulous people in it! Over the past 3 years I have had the pleasure of getting to know many of you. From planning and attending quarterly meetings to teaching trainings to circling around the campfire singing to the guitar I have loved every second I get to spend with our community.

A little background on myself: I am a GIS specialist and instructor at Allpoints GIS, a Denver based firm where I have worked for the past 6 years. I enjoy living on the western slope in sunny Gypsum. I have been a GIS professional working in the field of natural resource management for almost 12 years now. I have done extensive work with organizations such as the US Forest Service, The Trust for Public Land, The National Park Service, Tribal Nations, American Forests and USAID. I have lived in Colorado nearly my entire life (got here when I was 5, haven't left, couldn't bear the thought). I hold a BS degree in geosciences and GIS from Colorado State University. When I'm not being a geo-geek, you are likely to find me on a trail somewhere, whether that's hiking, biking, skiing, climbing, rafting... I'm up for it!

I want to continue to help enhance this group by seeing through all of the plans this board has made over the past years. I am actively engaged in a number of efforts with my current board members to make this organization bigger, better and more beneficial than ever. I ask for your vote so that I may continue to serve you and this community.
