Please accept my nomination to the GISCO Board.
I have over 20 years’ experience in the GIS field. I started as an entry-level GIS Technician creating and editing coverages in ArcInfo Workstation, making maps using ArcView 3.0, and continue gaining experience as an analyst, developer, and consultant. As a result, I have implemented and managed GIS teams and Enterprise systems in different organizations. I spend my last seven years in the water utility industry (at Denver Water) and ten years prior in the electric utility industry (at United Power). I am also proud to be an adjunct faculty for DU (for winter quarter 2021) and EUCI, teaching several GIS courses.
Because of my experience from the ground up, and wide-ranging experiences successfully implementing complex enterprise GIS solutions at telecom, electric utility, and water utility organizations, I bring a hands-on approach to the spatial industry. How to resolve the actual issues when working on any GIS project, what are the different approaches, how to implement it, and how to integrate them on the overall enterprise vision.
I am a more recent member of GIS Colorado though I have been attending meetings for a few years. My background is not in GIS but I have many years of connecting with GIS professionals in my current role as marketing director and client relations at Argis Solutions Inc. Argis Solutions is an emerging partner with ESRI and has won many accolades including the 2016 Partner of the Year Award in Innovation. GIS data, when centralized in a team’s or department’s workflow, can vastly improve an organization’s internal communication and provide better outcomes. I see joining the GIS Colorado board as an opportunity to further advocate the adoption and integration of GIS within organizations along the front range. My experience and background in marketing and graphic design would also be a great addition to the board’s current skill sets. I have driven design and message in the non-profit sector and technology start-up companies for over 10 years. I hold an Associates in Graphic Design from the Art Institute of Pittsburgh, and a B.A. from Kalamazoo College, and have held my current position at Argis Solutions, Inc since 2016.
Hello, my name is Genie Hays and I am running for a second term on the GIS Colorado board. I have almost two decades of experience in the GIS industry holding a myriad of positions in both the public and private sectors from sales, tech/analyst, outreach, project management, and teaching. I have also participated as a volunteer on various GIS committees for almost as long. Throughout it all I have been a GIS Colorado member.
I love what I do and owe a large part of my professional growth to GIS Colorado. The commitment to community and support for each other strongly aligns with my own values and I am excited to share my enthusiasm by serving on the board for another three years. Throughout my term I look forward to helping GIS Colorado continue being a positive influence throughout Colorado by continuing to organize training and professional networking events as well as expanding our resources through partnerships with other GIS societies locally and in neighboring states.
I would like to nominate myself, Darcee Killpack, for the GIS Colorado Board of Directors. I have been on the GIS Colorado Board for the past 9 years. I have been proud to work with our great community on training, conferences, and our quarterly meetings. Since 2019, I served as the treasure for GIS Colorado. In 2018 and 2020, I served on the Planning Committee and Program Chair for the Elevation Geospatial Summit, a joint conference between GIS Colorado and WYGEO. I also served as the GIS Colorado representative to the GIS in the Rockies Board of Directors for many years as well and served as the Conference Chair of GeCo in the Rockies in 2014.
I am running for the Board again as I feel there is more I can contribute to our community. I
have been working with Board to create a Strategic Plan providing the vision and direction of the organization for the next 5 years. We will be able to present that to our members and the community this summer and I want to continue our efforts to align our actions with our
strategic vision: Your Geospatial Connection. I also want t continue to arrange our quarterly
meetings providing local presentations and community networking opportunities around the state. If elected, I am dedicated to working with the GIS community more to evolve and grow GIS Colorado to meet the changing needs.
As for my professional background, I have over 21 years of experience in the GIS profession. I currently work as the Deputy Director of the USGS National Geospatial Technical Operations Center supporting the production and delivery of The National Map, US Topo, 3D Elevation Program, and the National Hydrography Dataset. I previously worked for the National Park Service as the GIS Coordinator for the Intermountain Region providing direct GIS support to over 91 park units in 8 states. I also worked for SWCA, Inc. as the GIS Director supporting the integration of GIS into environmental management, assessments, and analysis.
